Category budgets
How per-category budgets work since the Plan unification: a budget is a Plan, not a separate object. (The old dedicated category-budget editor screen is gone.)
Where budgets live
Plans are authored on the Plan tab. The Budget tab lists every plan recorded as a Budget bucket — plus any scheduled plan whose Appear in budget toggle is on — grouped by category with actual spending tracked against each target.
Editing a budget
- On the Budget tab, tap a row's pencil to open that category's plan in the editor (tapping the row itself drills into the period's transactions instead).
- On the Plan tab, tap the plan directly.
- The + button adds a new plan; pick the category and set the When toggle to Budget for an envelope-style bucket.
Amount and cadence
A plan carries one amount and a repeat cadence (per month, per week, …). The Exact / ≈ Varies toggle marks estimated amounts; the timeline preview under the form shows how the plan projects over the coming months.
Other spending & income
Spending that falls outside every planned category is covered by the catch-all buckets: in the plan editor's category picker, choose Other spending or Other income. These render as their own rows on the Budget tab and in the Budget-vs-actual report.
Tips
- Row colours follow the pacing palette — on-pace / close / over.
- The budget period follows the timeline strip above the tabs; change the window there to budget by week, month, quarter or year.
- Tap any row to see exactly which transactions consumed the budget in the current period.
