Passkey unlock

Unlock this book with your fingerprint, your face or a security key instead of typing the password. The password keeps working; a passkey is a faster way in, not a replacement.

Adding a passkey

Give the passkey a name you will recognise later ("Laptop fingerprint") and tap Add a passkey. Your browser or device then asks you to confirm with its own prompt.

The first passkey on a book that only had a password re-encrypts the book once. After that, changing the password no longer affects your passkeys.

Enrolled on this device

Every passkey added here, with the date it was added. Remove asks first, then stops that passkey from unlocking the book on this device. A passkey marked as needing re-enrolment no longer matches the book (it was re-encrypted since); remove it and add a new one.

Good to know

  • Passkeys stay on this device and never sync. Add one on each device where you want it.
  • If this browser or device can't use passkeys, the screen says so; unlock with your password as before.
  • Keep your password and recovery details safe: they are what opens the book on a new device.
