Storage & history screen

Storage & history

Shows what the book file spends its space on and lets you trim the change history that powers Restore and Undo.

Browser storage (web)

A browser may clear a site's data when space runs low or the site goes unused, unless it has granted that site protected storage. The app asks for it when a book opens, and this card shows the answer: Protected from automatic cleanup, or a note that the browser may still clear the data. Ask again appears where a second request can help; browsers grant it most readily to installed apps and to sites you use often, so installing the app from the browser menu helps. Either way, keep a backup: Back up this book opens Backup & restore.

What uses space

  • Your data & indexes — the transactions, accounts, and the indexes that keep lists fast.
  • Change history — one entry per past edit; this is what point-in-time restore and the History screen read.
  • Undo log — this device's undo stack bookkeeping.
  • Sync log — only on shared books; it trims itself after each sync.

Keep history

Pick how long change history is kept (30, 90, 365 days, or everything). Trimming runs automatically when the book opens. Restoring to any moment inside the kept window keeps working — every record always keeps its latest entry, so nothing disappears from a restore of the present state. What you give up is restoring to a moment before the window.

Prune now

The same trim on demand: choose an age, see how many entries and roughly how much space would be freed, then prune. This also compacts the book file so the space is returned immediately. Transactions and balances are never touched — only their change history. There is deliberately no way to switch history off entirely: backups restore from it, and Undo depends on it.
